Information you give us
- Contact form. When you send a message through our contact form, we collect your name, email address and message. We use this only to read and reply to your message.
- Polls and forms in articles. Some articles include short polls (for example, “What is your favorite Anthurium?”). We record the answer you choose. These answers are not linked to your name or email address.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe to our newsletter, you give us your email address. Our newsletter is run on beehiiv, which stores your email address and sends the newsletter on our behalf. Every email includes a link to unsubscribe at any time.
Information collected automatically
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site: for example, which pages are read most, how long people stay, and roughly where visitors are located. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your device type, browser, approximate location and the pages you visit. We use this only in aggregate, to improve the site.
- Security and performance. The site is delivered through Cloudflare and hosted with Cloudways. Like most websites, these services automatically process technical information such as your IP address and browser details in order to deliver pages quickly, protect the site from attacks and keep it running.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use cookies for analytics (Google Analytics), and our hosting and security providers may set cookies needed for the site to work properly. The newsletter signup box is provided by beehiiv and may also set cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, although analytics will not count your visit. You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Embedded content and links
Some pages include content embedded from other websites, such as the beehiiv newsletter signup box. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website, and that website may collect data about you under its own privacy policy. Our pages also link to other websites, such as our Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook profiles. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites.
